bemused.sf.net - Bemused Homepage

Bemused is a system which allows you to control your music collection from your phone, using Bluetooth. It requires a Series 60 or UIQ phone (e.g. Nokia 7650/3650, or Sony Ericsson P800/P900), and a PC with a Bluetooth adapter.

You can do the following with Bemused:

Browse your music collection on your phone

Play files in any format supported by Winamp - including MP3s, CDs, MIDIs, etc.

Control Winamp versions 2, 3 and 5, Windows Media Player and PowerPoint Viewer

Pause, stop, rewind, fast-forward etc.

Add songs to the playlist and use shuffle and repeat

Browse and select songs in your playlist

Download songs to your phone (supported formats: WAV and MIDI; plus MP3 for UIQ)

Customise the look of the system with skins

Best of all, Bemused is completely free software, released under the GNU General Public License.

Note that Bemused does not support the Sony Ericsson T610, and will not do so in the future. It only runs on phones based on Symbian OS. There are links to third-party clients and/or servers for PalmOS, Mac, KDE, Java, and others on the related projects page.

Database migration

My bad. This month has been a rather heavy one for me, and I didn't notice that SourceForge was migrating to MySQL 4.1. Since Drupal relies heavily on the database, the site went down. My apologies... Thanks to MLJ for the heads-up.

Website problems

As you most probably have noticed, this site has been having problems. SourceForge has apparently resolved the speed and database (MySQL) issues. Outgoing email was blocked due to abuse on the SourceForge servers, but I implemented their suggested workaround -- queueing outgoing mail in the database and pulling it via cron on the shell servers.

SourceForge requires cron jobs to execute only once an hour at most, so this means that any email from this site, e.g. new user passwords, will arrive in about an hour.

If you have not received your password due to the said blocking of outgoing email, please click "Request new password" under the login box, fill and submit the form, and wait for the email to arrive.

Sigh. I am seriously considering moving this site elsewhere. Thanks for your patience.

New Linux server developer

Oleksandr Shneyder, aka ncryer, is now an official developer of the Project. He will initially be helping out with the Bemused Linux server codebase. Watch out for lirc and mplayer support... Welcome aboard, ncryer!

Those who wish to help in the development of Bemused, please email me at alex-at-kdex.org. Thanks!

KDE server (kbemusedsrv) now official

I've been updating and adding new features to the KDE server. Since Linux+KDE is actually my primary platform, I've decided to officially support kbemusedsrv here, as well. It is still a part of the KDE Bluetooth Framework, and as such, updates will be via KDE's Extragear CVS as usual.

It's been a while...

Hello folks! Just a quick note to say the project is still alive.

Last year, a lot of things happened that caused me to leave off development of Bemused for a while -- including a new job, dead phones, crashed drive... you get the picture.

I have bit more time on my hands now, after adjusting to the workload. I'm currently gathering the pieces and should be submitting code to CVS again starting this week or, at the most, early next. Thanks for your patience...
